Well, looks like it's that time again, about once every other month I get an urge to go see a movie in theaters. You might think that's not such a bad thing, ever go to the theater by yourself? It is always a very depressing event. But, this post is not about my depression, it's about the movie. So here it is, my review on The Fantastic Four.
First,
THE FANTASTIC
Chris Evans- Johnny Storm (the human torch)
To me he was the highlight of the film. This guy was spot on for the character. From his daredevil attitude to his prankster personality. In fact, there is nothing bad I can say about him.
Johnny Storm: It's like some higher calling.
Reed Richards: Like getting girls and making money?
Johnny Storm: Is there any higher?
Michael Chiklis- Ben Grimm (the thing)
Where Johnny brings the laughter to the film, Ben brings the passion. I really felt sorry for the guy, even after the world accepts him as a hero his fiance leaves him without saying a word (A very touching scene where he's surrounded by a cheering crowd of people he just saved and he sees her set her ring on the ground and just walks away). The only complaint I have about Ben is once he turns into the Thing, his voice becomes more gravely (pun intended) I'm sure they did this on purpose but I found it more distracting then character building.
[Ben Grimm sees a man about to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge]
Ben Grimm: Hey! You think you got problems, you take a good look, pal.
THE (not so)FANTASTIC
Ioan Gruffudd- Reed Richards (mr. fantastic)
Ok, he was the worst in the whole film! He reminds me of a young Jeff Goldblum who never learned how to act. First off he's WAY too young to play Reed and he has almost no emotion. out of all the actors who could have played this role I have no idea why the picked him.
Reed Richards: A few days in space. What's the worst that could happen?
(yeah, that's his best line)
Jessica Alba- Sue Storm (the invisible girl)
To be honest she wasn't that bad, she was just completely wrong for the character. So all I can say is you did your best, good try.
Susan Storm: Victor, you always thought you were a god.
Victor Von Doom: Let's not fight.
Susan Storm: No. Let's.
(she has crap for lines)
THE (kind of) FANTASTIC
Julian McMahon- Victor Von Doom (dr. doom)
To tell you the truth, I thought he was a great Victor but I couldn't take him once he became Dr. Doom. I thought his voice needed to change and become more metallic. Now I don't think every villain's voice needs to change once they've reached their evil persona. A perfect example of this is Willem Dafoe as Norman and the green goblin. I thought he did a great job with out much change to his voice. But take Darth Vader, If vader spoke like a whinny Hayden Christensen instead of a badass James Earl Jones no one would take him seriously.
Von Doom's Doctor: Your entire biophysical structure is changing.
Victor Von Doom: That's terrible news.
[he kills the Doctor]
Victor Von Doom: I think I'll get a second opinion.
The only other thing I can say about this film is if you ever read the comics and want to enjoy it, FORGET EVERY COMIC YOU'VE READ! The origin is completely screwed up, mostly pertaining to Doom. According to the film, he was on the ship with the 4 and his powers were gained the same way as theirs. Oh and in the film his powers are super strength (he goes one on one with the thing!), skin as hard as diamonds, and control of electricity. In the comics, he has none of these powers naturally.
Well, I guess that's it hope you guys enjoyed this.
